The contemporary bronze sculpture was done by New York-based Sculptor, BJ Las Ponas. To create a piece, Las Ponas cuts sheets of bronze, and shapes them while still hot over an anvil. He melts bronze rods on top, welds them into place and hammers. This process is repeated until the sculpture is realized. Each little drop of bronze is hand applied, so every piece is an accumulation of thousands of individual welds. Little to no electricity is used in the process; it’s all done with simple hand tools.
